AND SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2000
Cousin Jeanne Woodward Menges and her committee organized an exciting
and varied reunion weekend to initiate the millennium. The weather, reminiscent
of the misty Scottish moors, did not dampen our enthusiasm and fun. The
canoeists managed a good drift down the Brandywine River before the fog moved
in. When the rest of the clan arrived at the Woodward Farm, we just moved all
the tables into the big tractor shed. The old wagon bed was decorated with
colorful fall mums and groaned with many savory favorite family dishes. Cousin Jeanne
had prepared an exceptional display of family photos, letters, and other
memorabilia in another shed across the way to remind us of our ancestors and
heritage.
Once we had stuffed ourselves, we gathered in a circle to relate family
stories and anecdotes. Cousin Ruth Woodward Krebs revealed a heretofore
unknown talent as an inspired mistress of ceremonies. About 75 attended the
Saturday picnic, but we weren’t finished!
On Sunday about 14 of us carpooled to various previous Woodward farms. We saw
the Levi Mattson Homestead, the Concordville Friends Cemetery, the Harry
Woodward Farm, the Bryon Woodward homestead, the Norris Woodward farm, the
Harold Woodward Farm, the Theodore Bolton Woodward pre-Revolutionary home, and
some of us visited Longwood Cemetery, where so many Woodward ancestors are
buried.
We thank Cousin Jeanne and her committee for all the hard work
and welcome the 2001 chair, Cousin Steve. [click
