a career scientist at Bell Labs, was a pioneer in the area of circuits and systems. The January 1999 memorial issue of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Circuits and Systems, was dedicated to Cousin Sydney. The Introduction notes, "The field of circuit theory has gone through major changes since World War II, and so has the entire discipline of Electrical Engineering. Darlington, through his brilliant contributions, will be long remembered as one who set the direction and pace of that change."
