| J. Robert ("Jimmy")Woodward
J. Robert Woodward, 90, of Mendenhall passed away September 5, 2004 at Kendal at Longwood. He was the husband of the late Ruth Mary Way Woodward and son of Norris Hewes Woodward and Mary Thompson Woodward, both deceased. Jimmy Woodward was a lifelong resident of Mendenhall, PA and a member of Kennett Friends Meeting. He graduated from Westtown School in 1932, and from the College of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State in 1934. He raised poultry and fruit with his brother Horace on the Woodward Farm for over fifty years. Jimmy was an avid sportsman and had a great love for the out of doors. He worked with the Brandywine Conservancy to help assure open spaces in Chester County, PA, including a portion of the Woodward Farm Mr. Woodward and his wife Ruth traveled extensively, visiting all seven continents, with a primary focus on nature and photography. He won numerous awards in the Delaware Camera Club between 1979 and 1989. Nearly 800 of his bird photos have been selected for the permanent collections of the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, and the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. He is survived by three daughters, Virginia W. Ogle; Ellen W. Eberhard; Ruth E. W. Krebs; one brother, Horace T. Woodward; five grandchildren, David W. Pender; Jennifer E. Krebs; Abram E. Krebs; Andrew E. Eberhard and Jacob. J. Eberhard; and one great granddaughter, Alexis P. Krebs. He was preceded in death by one sister Elizabeth W. Wood. Family and friends attended a memorial service for J. Robert Woodward at Kennett Friends Meeting House, West Sickle Street, Kennett Square, on September 25, 2004.
