Louise Carter Jennifer Louise Carter,
a longtime Tiburon resident, died October 1, 2004 at home in her sleep
of lung cancer. She was 45.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Thursday, October
7, in the Montgomery Chapel of the San Francisco Theological Seminary,
5 Richmond Rd., San Anselmo.
Ms. Carter was born in San Francisco, but moved to Marin
with her family when she was very young. She grew up in Belveder and
Tiburon, attending local schools and winning the nickname “Skeeter”
from her childhood days as a record-breaking competitive swimmer for
the Tiburon Peninsula Club and Lucas Valley teams.
Former Tiburon Town Councilmember Andrew Thompson, who
has known her since they were on the TPC swim team, said he remembers
her both as the gifted athlete and as a caring, sweet person.
She graduated from Redwood High School and attended San
Francisco State University.
For most of her career, she worked as a administrator for
Harold Stein and Company in Sausalito, where she got much satisfaction
out of the business environment. She had many friends among her coworkers
and she cherished memories from working there. When the company was
sold, she continued her career in the military food business at Elkin
and Company.
She then went to work as a counselor at Cedars of Marin
Victory Center in San Anselmo where she found a special niche in being
a champion for the disabled and mentally challenged.
She loved her Bel Aire Community and had successfully campaigned
to preserve her neighborhood’s one-story character. Her love of
horses and dogs was lifelong. Some of her happiest hours were spent
at the beach with her dogs Mitzi Boo and Bear.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, John and
Diane Carter of San Rafael; her mother, Janet Carter of Durham, North
Carolina; her sister, Jackie Carter, also of Durham; and a brother,
Hugh Carter; her nephew, Marshall Carter; and cousins.
